String Muting Techniques for Ukulele
Thumb Muting
Thumb muting is a string muting technique to stop the strings with the thumb of your playing hand to create a tighter rhythmic feel on the ukulele. String ring stops completely, usually for a split second between beats.
In my lessons I refer to this as a choked downstroke.
It works in all styles and with all chords, but is always played as a follow-through on a downstroke. Twist your wrist and briefly rest your thumb across all strings before you play the next upstroke with your index finger.
